'Machattuvela'
also known as 'Machattu Mamangam', is celebrated with great pomp,
pageantry and splendour on the last day of the five-day annual festival at
Machattu Thiruvanikavu Temple near Vadakkancherry,
Thrissur.
Devotees bring richly decorated Kuthirakolams (motifs of horses) in
ceremonial processions, as offering to the deity.
The colorful procession is accompanied by tradition percussion
instruments. The festival falls in the Malayalam month of Kumbham,
corresponding with the months of February/March.
